The European Youth Music Festival is held alternately for choirs ("vocal") and for instruments ("instrumental"), covering classical instruments and ensembles as well as hafabras. The maximum age is set at 25 years

Encouraging young people to practice music (together) is and remains the motivation and objective of this festival. After all, Neerpelt wants to be the epicenter where young people from different cultures can meet and learn to appreciate each other in music.

Every year around the first weekend of May, the festival offers young musicians the opportunity to show their talents to an audience and an international professional jury. The assessment received during the daily proclamation is a value poll that has built up a solid reputation in Europe over the years.
In addition to a music competition for choirs and music ensembles, a composition competition has now also been added.
