The National Choir Composition Competition was founded in 2005 by Capella di Voce, conductor Kurt Bikkembergs and Euprint editions, and has now had three editions in collaboration with Keizersberg Abbey.
The competition assignment was to compose new a cappella work for a good amateur choir (SATB or equal voices). In 2009 the assignment was slightly changed and the composition had to be sufficient for small choir groups (SABar or equal voices).
With this initiative, the organizers wanted to give an extra boost to choir life in Belgium; this by encouraging composers to write new work as well as inviting conductors and choir members to put new works with Belgian roots on the repertoire.
